Executive summary

Agribusiness is showing early signs of easing selling pressure, but its underlying market structure continues to weaken. Only 21 of 71 securities remain above their 200-day moving averages, compared with 42 four weeks earlier. The weekly median return is negative despite a slightly positive mean, illustrating uneven performance across the universe.

1. Market breadth: a sharp deterioration

MA200 participation fell from 59.2% to 29.6% in four weeks, a decline of 29.6 percentage points on the same 71-security sample. This is the clearest warning in the data: most constituents no longer trade above their long-term trend reference.

2. Selling pressure eases, but accumulation is not yet broad

High-relative-volume decliners fell from seven to two, while high-relative-volume advancers increased from four to seven. The median 20-session signed volume balance improved from −23.7% to −17.2%. Nevertheless, it remains negative, and median relative volume fell to 0.95×. Lower selling intensity is encouraging, but it does not yet establish sustained accumulation.

3. Drawdowns continue to deepen

The median drawdown from 52-week highs widened to −19.7%, from −17.5% one week earlier. Seventeen securities (23.9%) are more than 30% below their 52-week highs. The contrast between softer selling volume and worsening drawdowns suggests possible early stabilization rather than a confirmed recovery.

4. Weekly dispersion and participation

Thirty securities advanced, 39 declined and two were unchanged. The median weekly return was −0.64%, versus a mean of +0.10%. Ten securities gained at least 5%, while six lost at least 5%. Selective strength is present, but participation remains limited.

5. What would confirm improvement?

A sustained recovery would require broader MA200 participation, more widespread buying on above-normal volume, an improving signed-volume balance and stabilization in median drawdowns. Until those signals align, the data support a cautious interpretation: selling pressure has eased, but the structural decline has not been reversed.

Methodology and limitations

Source: Structural Alpha Research weekly analysis, observation period October 2–9, 2026. The 71-security universe includes companies traded in different currencies and markets; raw last-close prices are not cross-currency comparable. MA200 breadth measures the proportion of constituents above their own 200-session averages. Relative volume compares the most recent five sessions with a preceding 60-session reference. Drawdowns use 52-week closing highs. Weekly rankings are descriptive, not investment recommendations.
